The received wisdom holds that every double album contains a better single album. That wisdom is a filing convenience and this record refuses it. The sprawl is the thesis: a catalogue of what one writer could do across idioms in a single sitting, presented without apology or curation. Trimmed, it would be tidier and it would say less.
