Hostility as quality control

The standard complaint is that it is exhausting. Correct, and disqualifying for nothing: exhaustion is the record's subject. What is underrated is the discipline — thirteen tracks, none past its welcome, every noise placed where a hook would go and asked to do a hook's job. It works. That it works is more disturbing than the noise.
